Product Description
The molle large rucksack, on its own, has a capacity of 4000 cubic inches. The large rucksack's main body has a zippered internal load divider and openings at the top and bottom ends, to allow a sleeping bag (or other gear) to be loaded and unloaded independently without the need for an external "sleeping bag carrier." The top flap of the large rucksack is a mesh pocket for small reference and information materials. It is secured with a hook and loop closure. The complete large rucksack assembly has two large, removable "sustainment pouches" (included) which attach to the sides of the ruck using the same polyethylene-reinforced webbing strap and 'push dot' security snap system characteristic to the molle flc system. These sustainment pouches each contain two d-rings on the sides, which allow them to be carried by a "general-purpose sling" for alternate uses and each provides an additional 500 cubic inches' storage space. The molle assault pack and waist pack are not included as components of the rucksack, but can be attached to it, if desired. The complete molle ii rucksack assembly has 5 major components: 1 x polymer gen-iv molded frame 1 x molle large rucksack fabric body 2 x molle sustainment pouch 1 x molle large rucksack molded waist belt 1 x molle large rucksack shoulder straps (set) note: the entrenching tool case and molle entrenching tool pouch are optional accessories which are not part of the complete molle ii complete rucksack assembly.

Update 8/1/17 I have now had a chance to use the MOLLE II in quite a few situations. It is remarkably versatile due to the ability to utilize the included sustainment pouches, and to separate the bottom of the pack from the top half. There are compression straps built in to the body of the pack, and the suspension has easily adjustable shoulder, chest, and waist straps, plus load lifters on the top of the harness. I really like the external frame, as it allows me to carry a large weight with it well distributed on my back, shoulders, and hips. I have also removed the waist and shoulder harness and used the bag as a platform for gear on a kayak trip. I slipped a 70 liter dry bag inside and I had an extremely durable dry bag system for my gear. The main drawback to the MOLLE II is its weight, as it is close to 10 pounds empty. This is not a bag to use for lightweight purposes. It is built to carry big heavy loads without fear of material failure. My pack usually weighs around 40 -45 pounds, and based on the math of distribution concepts that are available from many experts, I am slightly ahead of the game at that weight with this pack. The more weight in the pack, the more it pays off to have this style bag. I just love the durability and have complete confidence in this bag to take whatever I can dish out, and whatever environmental stressors hit this pack. One other issue I do not like about this pack is the top closure. It has a drawstring at the top, and compression straps that pull down vertically, but this gaps and if the pack it really full at the top, it is a sloppy fit. I also purchased the Assault Pack for the MOLLE II system, and that is a great addition to your load out. The Assault Pack can attach to the Rucksack via 8 straps that hold it rock solid in place. I have used several other brands of back pack, and the MOLLE II is the one I find myself reaching for everytime. It is a great size, it fits so comfortable, and it is so durable. This pack fits in more of a wide way, rather than in a tall way, which helps maintain the center of it's mass closer the center of my mass, increasing balance and mobility. My last complaint about the MOLLE II is the ACU camo, as it is not particularly the best looking pattern. But, I do not care, as I look at the function or utilitarian nature of the pack before I consider how it looks.
I do wish the draw strings were braided cord instead of old style shoe string type draw strings and plastic clasp the pack comes with, as they are already getting worn after just two weekend outings. I'll probably replace the draw stings with para-cord now that I think about it, with a spring loaded clasp you see on civilian packs and jackets, or even some Velcro on the side pockets (which is used on the top flap) because I'm worried that small items could fall out of the large side bags attached with the current draw strings when the pack is turned upside down.
The inside has a big zipper so you can make it one big rucksack, or divide the inside into separate top and bottom compartments if you want. I stuff the fall rated black sleeping bag from the modular sleeping bag system into the bottom compartment easily. It won't hold more than maybe the summer bag and the bivy sack though inside the pack itself. The pack does not have any internal frame. There are a lot of straps on this pack, so you have to take some time to optimize them, remove the straps you don't need and secure the ones you do so they won't get caught on things, as with any pack.
It is a little on the heavy side around 7-9 lbs. empty but it is comfortable to carry even when I’ve crammed it full of stuff for multi day winter camping. It’s military issue so it’s made to be durable and to carry heavy loads. I plan to use it for mostly winter camping or for longer camping trips during the rest of the year. I’m happy with it and was in better condition than I expected.
